Manvers Lake Charity Shield Dragon Boat Race

Manvers Lake Events RGB.png
Come along and join us for our annual Dragon Boat Event.

We at Manvers Lake have held both National Dragon Boat Events and Charity Dragon Boat Events for the last few years. We know how to put on a spectacular event, with qualified helms to steer the boat, safety cover and a team of experts to help you bank side.

Gather your team of paddlers (and drummer) and join us on Saturday 7th September 2024 for a fun-filled family day out! Each team will take part in timed heats, with a minimum of 3 races each.

The event is free to all spectators. We will be having stalls, face painting and other attractions to keep everyone entertained throughout the day. There will also be a licensed bar on site!

The day will end with a presentation to the top three teams. Each team who come 1st, 2nd & 3rd will receive medals and trophies to keep. The winners will also receive their name engraved on the coveted Manvers Lake Charity Shield, which will be displayed on site for all to see. The winning team will also receive £400 donation to their chosen charity or non-profit organisation.

What do we need to take part in the Dragon Boat Race?

  • Teams need 16 paddlers plus one drummer (you can paddle with 14 but will be at a slight disadvantage)

  • To take part, participants must be over the age of 18 to paddle and 16 to be a drummer.

  • You will take part in a minimum of three timed heats, with the fastest progressing to a semi final and then a superb final!

  • Team entry is £400 per boat. 10% discount for each subsequent boat.

  • We encourage teams to make the most of the day and join in our activities or host their own stalls.

Come along and join in the fun-filled frantic frolics of Dragon Boating!

FAQs

Do people needed to have experience?

No experience is necessary, as long as the team listens to the instructions & can work well together as a team you'll be fine. We have previously had teams that literally jumped in a boat for the first time and do really well. However, we can offer training to the team if you are interested/competitive.

Can you offer any training in advance?

Yes, we can offer training if you are interested/competitive. These are £150 for a session and can be arranged by calling Trevor Coldron in the office on 01709 878984 or email: trevor.coldron@manverslaketrust.co.uk

One of our team cannot swim, is this ok?

That isn't a problem as everyone has to wear a bouyancy aid which we will supply. We also have a colour marker on the bouyancy aid to highlight any non-swimmers to the safety crew.
